Chena Hot Springs
is a winter favorite for locals and a summer favorite for
tourists. The hot springs were discovered in 1905 by gold
prospectors seeking to ease their painful rheumatism brought on by poor
diets and backbreaking work. Today the area boasts
hotel rooms, cabins, a campground, a bar and restaurant, and an air
strip. It offers gold panning, aurora watching, horseback riding,
dogsled rides, snow machine rides, ice-fishing, and many other outdoor
and indoor sports.
