Located
in South Central Alaska, many visitors are surprised to find that Alaska's
largest city, Anchorage, is a modern metropolis, with robust business
district, international airport and even skyscrapers. Anchorage
actually encompasses the smaller communities of Girdwood and Eagle River,
covering an area of 1955 sq miles. Here you'll find Anchorage holds
it's own among the transportation, finance and trade, health card and
communication industries. Also located here are two large military
bases, two universities, as well as vocational and technical schools,
three hospitals, several shopping malls, with big name retail giants,
gourmet coffee houses, a symphony, a performing arts center, and several
fine restaurants. In summer, visitors are treated to over 19 hours
of daylight, with temperatures ranging from 50 to 70, and countless
displays of gorgeous flower displays. Spring and Fall are short,
yet, beautiful, and winter has the uniqueness of having only a little over
5 hours of daylight, but mild temperatures ranging from 10-25
degrees. Annual snowfall averages less than six feet, and avid
skiers will find the groomed cross country ski trails some of the best
around.
