Big Lake,
a small community on the shore of Big Lake, lies 13 miles
southwest of Wasilla and 18 miles north of Anchorage, in the Chugach
Mountains. In June 1996, the "Miller's Reach"
wildfire devastated the Big Lake and Houston area, and destroyed more
than 37,500 acres, including 433 buildings and homes valued at
$8.9 million. Big Lake is a non-native community that has
numerous vacation and weekend homes owned by residents of nearby
Anchorage, and boating and fishing are extremely popular on the lake
during the summer. Local businesses support the economy, with
several lodges on the lake supporting summer recreational boating and
fishing activities. Big Lake is accessible from the George Parks
Highway and by a State-owned airstrip. January temperatures range
from 4 to 23; July can vary from 47 to 68.

The Woodland Suite is a private upstairs unit with an outside entrance. It has a beautifully finished log interior, hardwood floor, fireplace, fully-equipped kitchenette, bedroom with queen size bed, full size sofa/bed futon in the living room and a private bath. call of loons and grebes welcome you to this special place in harmony
with nature. The owners have carefully gathered wood from trees
injured and bent during early growth years and have artfully given each
a special place in this unique display of natural architecture.
Pine and cedar woodwork, 4-panel doors, and hardwood floors create the
warm and comfortable interior of the inn. The owners' design and
originality fills every room. Beds are covered with handmade quilts and
a love for the out of doors is displayed throughout.
