Aniak is
located on the south bank of the Kuskokwim River at the head of Aniak
Slough, 59 miles southwest of Russian Mission in the Yukon-Kuskokwim
Delta. It lies just 92 air miles northeast of Bethel and 317 miles west
of Anchorage. Aniak is an Eskimo word meaning "the place
where it comes out, referring to the mouth of the Aniak River. A
Russian-era trader named Semen Lukin is credited with the discovery of
gold near Aniak in 1932. The population is primarily Eskimo with some
Athabascan residents and subsistence foods contribute largely to
villagers' diets. Salmon, bear, moose, birds, berries and gardens make
up the primary food sources. Many families travel to fish camps each
summer The economy is based on government, transportation
and retail services. Access to Aniak is limited to air and water.
Temperatures range between -55 and 87. Average yearly precipitation is
19 inches, with snowfall of 60 inches. The Kuskokwim is ice-free from
mid-June through October. |

Spend your days angling for salmon, trophy rainbow, trophy pike, arctic char,
Dolly Varden, shee fish, or large grayling. The Alaska Dream Lodge strictly
maintains a catch and release policy, but does provide their clients with one
box of salmon from their local processor to take home for their enjoyment.
Enjoy a fine bottle of wine with your evening meal which may include Prime Rib,
grilled thick Rib Eye Steaks, Italian Dishes, Salmon and Halibut, not to mention
the home-made rolls, breads, and desserts. Guests to the lodge may have
the opportunity to see black bear, brown bear, beavers, mink, martin,
wolverines, wolves, caribou, moose, bald eagles, golden eagles, and
porcupines, to name some of the local wildlife. Alaska Dream Lodge is a
true wilderness experience. Make sure to bring your camera, photo opportunities
